New Mondeo takes a bow in Bond movie

Date: 09 October 2006

Ford's all-new Mondeo will take a starring role in the new Bond movie, Casino Royale.

Britain's favourite repmobile pips the secret agent's usual Aston as the first car driven on screen, with Bond choosing an, until now, unseen five-door 2007 Mondeo to track down a terrorist cell in the Bahamas.

The Mondeo estate concept was unveiled at the recent Paris motor show, but Ford's marketeers decided a celluloid debut would be more appropriate for its five-door hatch.

Unlike the concept, the film car needed to be close to production, so the estate's garish interior was replaced by something close to what will be available come the March on-sale date.

The new car receives a new infotainment system while gaining a new central LCD between the speedo and rev counter. The car will also debut Ford's optional intelligent filler cap that detects nozzle diameter.and closes a valve at the top of the tank if the wrong nozzle is inserted to prevent misfuelling.
