New scheme to cut collisions caused by foreign lorries

Date: 22 December 2006

A new pilot scheme aims to reduce the number of sideswiping accidents caused by foreign lorries.

There were a total of 1164 reported sideswiping accidents caused by foreign lorries in 2005. The scheme aims to solve the problem by offering a free stick-on lens to cover the blind spot.

Three French ports will hand out a total of 40,000 of the stick-on lenses.
