Primera handed Russian reprieve

Date: 15 September 2006

1.8-litre to remain on sale in the UK

Its price and the amount of interior space means Nissan's new Qashqai will compete directly with the Japanese manufacturer's slow-selling Primera. Could this be the final nail in the coffin for a car that has long sunk under the company car buyer's radar? Not according to Nissan. Thanks to unexpected success in the Russian market, the Primera will continue to be manufactured and will remain on sale in the UK in 1.8-litre guise for "a little longer yet" said a Nissan spokesman.
