Renault confirms Clio GT

Date: 30 October 2006   |   Author: John Mahoney

Renault has confirmed it will build a sporty GT version of its Clio supermini that will sit beneath the hardcore Clio 197.

Powered by a 138PS 2.0-litre petrol, the GT will have its own suspension tune and bodykit to distinguish it from lesser models.

Renault did not give a date for the GT, but the new engine makes its debut in the Dynamique S.

Available from the first week in November, the 3dr Dynamique S (a 5dr follows in 2007) is launched with a new six-speed gearbox that helps the Clio sprint to 62mph in 8.5secs.

The new trim level brings with it a high standard spec compared to the Dynamique, which includes aircon, keycard, half leather and new 16-inch alloys.

Prices begin at £12,810 for the Dynamique S 138, with a luxurious Privilege version following later.
