Roadster Coupe boosts MX-5's fleet potential

Date: 26 July 2006

Fleet customers could account for one-in-five sales of Mazda's new MX-5 steel-roof Roadster Coupe as improved security and no compromise on boot space attracts more user choosers.

Rob Lindley, Mazda UK's managing director, said: "Technically, under SMMT criteria the soft top MX-5 has a 25% to 30% fleet ratio, but that includes the dealer demonstrators. Our own adjusted figure of 15% is still pretty significant and 20% of roadster coupes will probably be genuine fleet cars. MX-5, like RX-8 with its four seats and four doors, are bought for staff retention and recruitment inducement, particularly in the finance, IT and pharmaceutical sectors."

With a £1760 premium, the roadster coupe's price range will be from £18,210 for the 1.8-litre five-speed version to the highest specification 2.0, six-speed variant at £22,000. Deliveries start in October.
