Smart fleets pick new electric vehicles

Fleets will lead the way in a 200-car trial of electric Smart Fortwos.
DaimlerChrysler-owned Smart has developed an electric version of its two-seat citycar capable of 70mph, that has a range of 72 miles and can cover 0-30mph in 6.5 seconds (quicker than the petrol version).
The initial 200 cars will all be run by fleets so that Smart can assess the car's potential.
Sam Bridger, head of marketing at Smart, said: "The cars are available to lease on a four year 40,000 mile basis, but it's not just the car they're getting, it's a whole eco package. The Fortwo is the ultimate urban vehicle and some people already think it's electric.
"Knight Frank estate agents are one of the first fleets to use the car. We're also talking to urban companies and local authorities. There will be charging points in Milton Keynes, Middlesbrough and we're also talking to TfL."
Smart is only working with companies that generate or use renewable electricity so the cars use CO2 free charging stations.
