Toyota confirms Corolla replacement

Date: 24 October 2006

Toyota has revealed that the replacement for its lower medium Corolla hatchback will retain the Auris name of the concept car shown at last month's Paris motor show.

On sale in February, the Auris will be launched with five engines (three diesel and two petrol). The diesels are 90PS 1.4, 130PS 2.0 and 180PS 2.2-litre units, while the petrols are a 97PS 1.4 and 124PS 1.6.

Both the three- and five-door will be available from launch, although the saloon and estate have been dropped in the UK.

"With the launch of Auris we want to achieve a step-change, not only in sales volume, but also in brand image for Toyota," said Andrea Formica, Toyota's European vice-president for sales, marketing and aftersales.
