Ask for a little green help, says Lex

Fleets should ask their suppliers to do more to help reduce them go green, according to Lex, the UK's largest contract hire company.
The method endorsed by Lex is an accreditation standard called ISO 14001, which assesses companies' entire environmental impact, from paper recycling up to company car emissions.
The adoption of the ISO standard has seen Lex introduce video conferencing in its Marlow, Stockport and Stirling offices. As a result, 2500 fewer driver journeys were undertaken in 2006 between offices, suppliers and customers.
Lex also highlighted the importance of fleet selection in cost management. The firm claims a review of one customer's fleet led to a £16,000 annual fuel bill saving.
"It's often some of the smaller changes to the fleet that give the largest environmental benefit," said Lex managing director Jon Walden. "Contract hire providers, manufacturers, fleet suppliers and even fuel card companies should all be swapping information and processes in a bid to make a difference."
