Audi all set for busiest launch year yet

Audi A4

The busiest year in Audi's history will kick off with all 10 engine variants on the new A4 (pictured) available within two months of the car's March 2008 launch.

Five will be available from launch with four more following in April before the arrival of a new entry-level diesel in May to round off the range. The lower-powered version of the 2.0 TDI, with around 120PS, will give Audi a sub-£20,000 entry point for its saloon.

The 3.0-litre diesel engine will get an eco makeover next year with the company's Adblue system that reduces the local air pollutants NOx and particulates, as well as improving fuel economy. The Q7 3.0-litre diesel will also receive the Adblue treatment in 2008, with Audi claiming it will then be the cleanest engine in the world.

The Avant model, which accounts for around 60% of A4 sales, will follow in July, with the price premium expected to be just over £1000.

The A5 is also getting new engines. A 2.7 diesel and 3.2 petrol will be added by the end of the year, as well as the entry petrol 1.8 turbo model.

Also due in the early part of next year is the facelifted version of the A3, accompanied by the first ever cabriolet version, which gets a fabric roof rather than the metal type that rivals are switching to. The new Q5 smaller off-roader and facelifted A6 are scheduled for September 2008.
