BMW 123d and 635d revealed

BMW has added a hot, yet frugal, diesel to its 1-series range. The 123d powered by a twin-turbo version of BMW's excellent 2.0-litre diesel goes on sale in September.
The new 1-series, available in three- and five-door variants, is capable of 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds and has an official fuel figure of 54.3mpg. The 123d also sits in the minimum diesel benefit-in-kind tax band of 18% thanks to a 138g/km emissions rating. The 123d is fitted with BMW's Efficient Dynamics eco-tech system that includes a stop-start function and brake energy regeneration.
At the other end of the manufacturer's range, BMW is adding a diesel engine to the 6-series coupe and convertible for the first time.
A 635d will join the range when it is facelifted later this year. It's powered by the 286PS 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel already fitted to the 3-and 5-series.
The powerful diesel gives the coupe version a 0-62mph time of 6.3 seconds and 6.6secs for the convertible. Official fuel figures also impress with a combined of just over 40mpg for the coupe.
While the 6-series does not include stop-start technology, it does include clever eco-aircon, active aerodynamics and brake energy regeneration. This Efficient Dynamics technology gives the 635d a CO2 figure of 183g/km, which sits in the 26% BIK tax band.
Pricing for the new models will be revealed nearer the September on-sale date.
