Budget set to hammer worst polluting cars

Date: 19 March 2007

Wednesday's Budget statement will be another attack on cars with higher Co2 emissions, according to reports this morning.

Chancellor Gordon Brown is set to announce a massive hike on vehicle excise duty, almost doubling it from the current £210 per year to £400 for cars over 225g/km of CO2. But the huge rise is unlikely to appease environmentalists calling for annual VED of £1000 per year.

BusinessCar.co.uk/budget2007 will bring you all Wednesday's Budget 2007 news as it happens.
