Citroen plans built-in telematics pack

Date: 30 April 2007

Ian Huges - Citroen

Citroen is planning to be the first van maker to offer a fleet telematics package as standard from this autumn.

Speaking exclusively to BusinessCar at last week's CV Show, Citroen's head of fleet and remarketing Ian Hughes said the plan was part of Citroen's wider goal to cater for businesses' corporate social responsibility needs.

"It's about using your van intelligently," he said. "We're doing a fleet package with telematics firm Trafficmaster."

The new scheme is designed to go beyond just offering satnav in vans. It will be "more of a fleet management tool", said Hughes.

Citroen was the first brand to install Trafficmaster's satnav systems as a manufacturer-approved option in its vans.

"The system we offer in our vans is free for three years and there's also an extra year included to improve RVs. When the car is sold on at the end of its contract the new owner can call up and have a fourth year free - it adds value to our used vans," said Hughes.

Hughes claimed the RV impact of fitting kit such as Trafficmaster's system could already be measured. "The new Relay has an RV of 35%, that's 50% up on the previous model - part of that is due to the new technology."
