CO2 beating Corsa

Vauxhall has cleaned up its 1.3 CDTi engine to enable it to slip under the forthcoming critical 120g/km emission barrier and business is set to benefit.

The minor engine tweaks see the 75PS 1.3-litre diesel emissions tumble from 124-119g/km that will see an immediate payback of £80 in Vehicle Excise Duty rates.

The cleaner Corsa is also set to receive a 100% discount from London's congestion charge, if the proposed CO2 based charging scheme is introduced, that with an average saving of £2000 per year could recoup the majority of its value in tax in just three years.

From 2008 drivers will also benefit from a 10% company car discount favouring greener vehicles that slip under the 120g/km bracket. The 3% diesel surcharge will remain, meaning that the tax obligation will slip from 18-13% BIK, enabling a basic tax payer to save £107 a year, while those paying 40% income tax will see savings of £195.
