Diesel-electric hybrid Corsa revealed

Date: 23 August 2007   |   Author: Tristan Young

Vauxhall's parent firm GM will unveil a diesel-electric hybrid version of the Corsa at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

Although only a concept at the moment it is believed the car could go into production.

The Corsa Hybrid uses Vauxhall's 75PS 1.3-litre diesel linked to a battery system, which gives the car a 99g/km emissions figure and a 75mpg fuel consumption stat.

The Corsa Hybrid will be shown alongside a production ready conventionally powered eco version of the Corsa called EcoFlex, a brand that GM will use a host of green car variants.

Commenting on the upcoming show, a GM spokesman said: "We will soon offer new EcoFlex variants, which have the lowest CO2 emissions in their respective model line. The premiere variant - the 75PS Corsa 1.3 CDTI EcoFlex with diesel particulate filter - makes its European premiere at the show.

"On sale on the Continent by December, the well-equipped five-door version produces just 119g/km of CO2, which corresponds to an consumption of 62.8mpg. EcoFlex variants of other high-volume model lines will also be available at the end of the year on the Continent including a Meriva 1.3 CDTI EcoFlex, Astra 1.3 CDTI EcoFlex, as well as natural gas-powered Zafira and Combo CNG EcoFlex versions."

UK arrival timings for the EcoFlex range have yet to be confirmed.
