Drivers in good behaviour shock

Date: 11 January 2007

Drivers are paying greater attention to the rules of the road than ever before, if the latest figures from National Car Rental are to be believed.

The number of fines accrued by customers renting its vehicles between January and October 2006 were down 8.4% on the same period in 2005, with speeding fines in particular showing a fall.

NCR receives thousands of fines across parking, congestion charge, bus lane and other traffic offences every month, and the company's vice president of European operations Brian Jayes revealed a worry about one particular driving crime. "The area of most concern is congestion charge fines," he said. "These have kept at the same level for the last couple of years, which doesn't bode well for the expansion of the congestion charge zone on 19 February."

National has also announced that it has added the all-new Vauxhall Corsa to its rental fleet. "This latest addition to the fleet is part of our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with the latest vehicles," said NCR vice president, fleet, Tim Bailey.
