Serious and fatal accidents involving work-driving have risen 9% according to Department for Transport figures unearthed by road safety group Brake.
The DfT figures from 2006 show more than a quarter of those killed or seriously injured on the road involved someone driving on work business. The number equates to 858 people killed and 6622 seriously injured.
When figures were first reported in 2005, the figures stood at 850 deaths and 6012 serious injuries.
Brake believes the figures are much higher due to police under-reporting the 'at-work' category.
A spokesman said: "Brake is calling for the Government to take action to tackle work-related crashes, including more accurate reporting of 'at-work' accidents, better investment in safety campaigns and requiring companies to report on-road crashes to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Currently, employers are only required to report on-site incidents to the HSE."
