EST relaunches CO2 reduction scheme

Date: 19 March 2007

The Government-funded Energy Savings Trust has overhauled its eco-transport scheme, called Motorvate, which encourages businesses to reduce their transport related carbon emissions.

EST has introduced a three tier - bronze, silver, gold - award system that can be used as part of a firm's ISO 14001 accreditation.

"Motorvate provides participating businesses with a structure through which to implement, monitor and enhance their environmental efficiency targets," said an EST spokesman.

"Through the programme, members will receive exclusive access to a range of benefits.

"They will be given specialist advice, tailored to their vehicle needs. Fleets will take part in annual fleet emission audits to monitor improvements. And managers will also be put in contact with a network of like-minded business professionals to share tips and experiences.

"Businesses which make significant progress toward their emissions reduction targets will be rewarded. Fleets reducing carbon emissions by 5% from a baseline level will be awarded bronze-level status; a 10% decrease will be granted silver-level status; those that achieve a 15% reduction will receive a gold-level acknowledgement."
