Fewer fleet managers but ACFO targets membership high

Date: 21 May 2007

Julie Jenner, ACFO, Chairman

Fleet operator association ACFO is hoping to break the 1000 member barrier for the first time this year, thanks to the decreasing number of fleet managers.

The organisation said the increased number of people from finance, HR and procurement departments that have responsibility for business cars is attracting a new breed of member.

"What we have seen in recent years, and will continue to see, is the outsourcing of some fleet operator roles," said ACFO chairman Julie Jenner. "As a result, internal management of the fleet function is being taken over by individuals in other departments and from other disciplines. That is providing a rich recruitment ground as they are looking to increase their limited fleet knowledge."

ACFO currently has more than 700 members with fleet operator responsibilities, plus a further 200 affiliates from leasing companies, manufacturers, dealers or suppliers.
