Firms lose sight of eye tests

Date: 18 January 2007

Businesses are neglecting to urge its drivers to have frequent eye tests a survey has revealed.

Following interviews with more than 1300 participants, the road safety organisation Brake found an alarming fifth of all questioned go without a regular eye check.

Brake believes the problem is endemic, with up to two million UK drivers driving with eyesight below the legal minimum, basing this figure on an investigation back in 2002 when 4.8% of drivers stopped by police could not read a number plate at the minimum legal distance.

Brake has produced a free eyesight information pack that can be ordered by emailing admin@brake.org.uk or calling 01484 559 909.
