Ford joins green move with Econetic

Date: 31 August 2007

Ford Econetic

Ford is the latest manufacturer to jump on the CO2-cutting bandwagon with a new Econetic range of vehicles.

Following the moves made by BMW's Efficient Dynamics or VW's Bluemotion technology, Econetic versions of various Ford models are in the pipeline, the first of which is a 1.6-litre Focus diesel claimed to emit 115g/km of CO2 and offer average fuel consumption of 65.7mpg. that compares with the standard car's 127g/km and 58.9mpg, with the results achieved through a number of measures including reducing aerodynamic drag and the use of a new low-viscosity transmission oil.

More details will be revealed at the Frankfurt show later this month, with the technology arriving alongside the facelifted Focus in early 2008.
