Ford launches first manufacturer-branded driver training

Date: 08 August 2007

Ford has launched a new driver risk management programme, thought to be the industry's first manufacturer-branded scheme.

Developed by BusinessCar Awards-winning training specialist Drive & Survive, the scheme gauges drivers' training needs through an initial online assessment, with supplementary E-Learning programme or on-road driver training where deemed necessary.

"We are keen to assist our clients in complying with their duty of care obligations but there is an associated benefit in the form of cost savings," said Ford fleet boss Kevin Griffin. "More aware, better-informed and more confident drivers tend to avoid damaging incidents, use less fuel, and take more care with company assets."

At £109 per head, the scheme is subsidised by Ford to just under half of the market current rate, allowing for Drive & Survive's statistics that around a quarter of drivers that take the online assessment need to progress through to on-road training. Drive & Survive will appoint a dedicated account manager to deal with the programme's running and administration.

Car and van fleets are both eligible, as long as at least some of the vehicles were purchased from Ford, and for more details either contact the local business development manager, call Drive & Survive's Emily Natgzer on 0870 121 8339 or check out www.ford.safer-driving.co.uk.

Kia claimed to be planning a similar scheme a year ago, however, BusinessCar understands this never got off the ground.
