Ford sizes up mad concepts

Date: 02 January 2007

Ford's LCV engineers seem to have dabbled in a little too much festive alcohol with this pair of one-off concepts based on the Transit and Transit Connect models.

The Transit XXL has been created by Ford's UK technical centre, and is 2.5 metres longer than a standard Transit Tourneo. It seats the driver plus seven passengers and features four sliding doors.

Meanwhile, the Transit Connect X-Press has been fitted with a roll-cage, 18-inch alloys and the small matter of the 215PS 2.0-litre turbocharged engine from the 2004 Focus RS. It's been lowered by 70mm, too, and the company reckons it's good for 130mph.

The X-Press was first shown a couple of years back, before being updated to take on the latest Connect facelift late last year.

Predictably, expect neither vehicle to appear on Ford's price list in the near future.
