Ford to reveal new Fiesta, X-max in September

Date: 20 March 2007

Ford Iosis X

Not content with launching the new Mondeo, which was given its world unveiling at last week's Geneva motor show, Ford will reveal hints at two other crucial new models later this year.

The UK's biggest-selling brand will use September's Frankfurt motor show to remove the covers from concept versions of the next generation Fiesta and a near-production version of the long-awaited off-roader first previewed in the form of last year's Iosis X concept (pictured), expected to be called X-max when it goes on sale.

The Fiesta will arrive next spring, giving Ford a much-needed boost in a segment that has seen a new Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris and Fiat Punto all launched in the past 15 months.

The off-roader will give Ford a presence in what is a rapidly growing segment. The brand hasn't had a 4x4 on sale since the Maverick was dropped in 2004, and even then it was never seen as a serious rival to the likes of Toyota's Rav4. Expect the production version in 2008.
