Geneva gets Twingo'd

Date: 06 March 2007

The big news on the Renault stand at the Geneva motor show is the unveiling of the petite Twingo city car.

The previous, 2.4 million-selling Twingo was a hit in continental Europe but was developed only in left-hand drive configuration - a mistake Renault is keen to remedy. The new Twingo arrives on these shore in September.

Set to go head-to-head with cars like the Fiat Panda and Citroen C1-Peugeot 107-Toyota Aygo threesome, the Twingo will be available with two efficient 1.2-litre petrols from launch, a 75PS and a 100PS turbocharged version. The latter makes its debut in the sporty GT version that hits 60mph in less than 10 seconds but returns a frugal combined 47.9mpg. All Twingos will emit less than 140g/km.

Inside, the Twingo boasts a sliding row of seats behind the driver that increases boot space from 165 to 285-litres while still seating four.
