GENEVA SHOW: BMW reveals mighty M3

Date: 07 March 2007

German carmaker BMW has unveiled a concept for its forthcoming M3, and the rumour at the Geneva motor show was that it was close to the production model.

Sharing only doors, boot lid and tail lamps with the 3-series coupe it's based on, the muscular M3 uses materials such as carbon fibre to cut weight.

Under the bulging bonnet lies a high-revving 414PS V8 that delivers astonishing performance and a sub-five second sprint to 60mph.

Handling is expected to be as good as ever thanks to an even weight distribution, bespoke differential and specific suspension tune.

Drivers will have the choice of either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automated manual.

The M3 is expected to go on sale in autumn with a price tag around £45,000.
