GENEVA SHOW: Seat unveils first four-wheel drive

Date: 06 March 2007

One of the surprises at the Geneva motor show was Seat's unveiling of the Altea Freetrack concept, the Spanish firm's first 4x4 for the UK market.

Officials behind the scenes have already confirmed it for production.

It will be powered by either a 240PS turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol or 170PS diesel and is expected to sell in low volumes in the UK.

Based on the Altea XL, the mud-loving Seat gains a raised ride height and all the hardware to ensure it won't get stuck when conditions take a turn for the worst.

The four-wheel drive crossover is expected to be available only in top trims and has been tipped to arrive following the Barcelona motor show in June.
