Grand Voyager launches Chrysler's first year of independence

Date: 12 December 2007   |   Author: Guy Bird

Chrysler Group kicks off its first full year of independence since splitting with Daimler in May 2007 with six launches headed up by its Grand Voyager on February 25 2008.

The large MPV was the fourth biggest-selling business MPV and a top 100 fleet model in 2006 shifting 2520 units.

The new Grand version (the lesser-selling basic Voyager has been dropped) is even longer than its outgoing model - 5143 vs. 5096mm - with all the extra length in the front end to improve pedestrian impact, according a Chrysler spokesman. It faces its NCAP crash test debut in early 2008.

The new vehicle offers a 300C-style face and a new kind of seating system called Swivel 'n Go, featuring second-row seats that can face the rear third row and share a plug-n-play table in between. Despite its genuine novelty Chrysler believes the £750 option will only represent 10% of UK sales, with customers predicted to prefer the existing standard Stow 'n Go system that can fold all seats flat into the floor.

Contrary to Chrysler UK's management thinking earlier in 2007, a 193PS 3.8-litre petrol will be offered over here to satisfy a few diehard customers, although 99% of sales will be taken by the auto-only 163PS 2.8 diesel CRD. Fleet registrations should be 30%.
