Insignia to replace Vectra name

Date: 29 November 2007

Vauxhall has officially confirmed the replacement for the Vectra will be called Insignia, as exclusively revealed by BusinessCar in December 2006.

The production version of the Insignia will be officially unveiled at the British motor show next summer, however Vauxhall has released this teaser picture in the run-up to the car's launch.

Insignia is set to offer a four-wheel drive version for the first time since the Cavalier. Also set to feature is General Motors' new 250PS 2.9-litre diesel, a 170PS version of the 1.9-litre diesel as well as the current 150PS and 120PS diesel units.

On the inside, Vauxhall has developed a new seating system called Flex4. The company developed the clever Flex7 system in the Zafira that pioneered fold-flat seats in the Mini-MPV sector, and the new system on the concept car slides the back of the rear seat forward to meet the front seat, pulling with it a cover to protect the seat base.

The GTC concept car which was shown at the Geneva motor show this year is understood to hint at the Vectra replacement's final look and interior is said to be near-production ready, showing the company's thinking for the next generation of production models.
