Land Rover lands off-road driver training contract

Date: 19 November 2007   |   Author: Hugh Hunston

Land Rover has won a support contract to provide specialised rough terrain training for 100 National Grid Wireless drivers, who maintain and repair broadcasting and mobile phone transmission equipment nationwide.

It is part of a programme of expert tuition for public utilities, police forces, ambulance operators and other emergency services to help companies meet health and safety and risk assessment requirements.

The Highways Agency recently ordered 49 Discovery 3s in a deal that also involves expert training. Land Rover's UK marketing director Andy Griffiths said the training routines harnessed nearly 60 years of "overcoming the elements and negotiating any terrain".

Training programmes operate on nine Land Rover Experience centre courses. Peter Sanders, general manager of operational services at National Grid Wireless, said: "This specifically tailored programme will ensure that the company's field operations team has the knowledge and ability to use 4x4 vehicles safely and effectively in all weather conditions and terrains."
