Merc C's RS6 and raises its 63

Date: 05 September 2007

Frankfurt motor show sees not one, but two German brands vie for the title of quickest wagon in the world.

In the Ingolstadt corner, the ludicrous RS6 with its headline power figure of an incredible 580PS thanks to its blown Lamborghini engine, while hailing form Stuttgart is the all-new C-class dubbed C63 AMG Estate.

The smaller of the two, the C63 will be pitched directly at the RS4 and forthcoming M3 estate if BMW give it the nod for production.

Boasting an incredible 457PS from its 6.2-litre V8, performance is simply stunning nailing sixty in the same 4.6sec it takes the monster RS6.

Like the Audi, the Mercedes benefits from a quicker thinking gearbox and paddles for the most enthusiastic driver.

Standing out from the rest of the C-class range the AMG gets a subtle bodykit, with flared arches and power dome on the bonnet, while at the rear two sets of chrome rear tailpipes identify a debadged fire-breathing load lugger.

Priced at around £50,000, the Merc still has the load capacity of 485-litre load space and the ability to send the family Labrador to the vet with a serious case of whiplash.
