Misfueling prevention device to the rescue

Date: 04 October 2007

A new Rutland-based company believes it has the answer to the perennial problem of misfueling.

According to breakdown organisations, 150,000 motorists make the mistake of pumping unleaded fuel into a diesel car every year.

The device from DDN has been two years in development and is due to be launched next month. It replaces the car's existing fuel filler, and physically prevents the insertion of a smaller petrol fuel nozzle. The firm is hopeful of attaining Thatcham approval by the end of the year, and claim the device is manufactured to OE standards.

DDN expects the Misfueling Prevention Device to cost from £50 to £100 per installation, pointing out that the potential bill for engine and fuel system damage often runs into thousands of pounds per incident.

Currently, major marques such as Ford, Vauxhall, BMW and VW are covered, but the company is willing to undertake specific designs should demand exist. For more info go to www.misfuelpreventiondevice.com.
