M&S boss re-greens with Hydrogen BMW delivery

Date: 04 June 2007   |   Author: Nick Gibbs

BMW's Hydrogen 7 hits the UK

Britain's greenest company car is to be delivered this month when Marks and Spencer boss Stuart Rose is handed the keys to a BMW Hydrogen 7.

Rose will be hoping the delivery will erase the embarrassment of being outed as "Two Bentleys" following his public announcement to make M&S carbon neutral by 2012.

His company Bentley Silver Spur was reportedly sold recently to make way for a regular BMW 7-series. He still owns a Bentley Continental GT.

The Hydrogen 7 can run on either pure hydrogen or on petrol and will replace Rose's more conventional BMW for "around two weeks to a month" according to an M&S spokeswoman.

Rose's car is one of eight heading to the UK, but so far only Rose has been signed up as a VIP "opinion former" to run one.

"We believe someone like that will give us useful feedback in terms of taking the concept forward and actually bringing a car like this to market," said a BMW spokesman.
