Northgate buys Hampsons

Van rental giant Northgate has grown its fleet by 1600 vehicles with the acquisition of Hampsons Self Drive Hire for an undisclosed sum.

Following the purchase a spokesman said: "The Northgate network now comprises 21 subsidiaries trading from some 90 locations across the UK and Ireland. The company's rental fleet in now in excess of 65,000 vehicles, most of which are light commercial vehicles."

Hampsons ran its commercial vehicle fleet from nine locations across the UK (Grantham, Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Mansfield, Spalding, Cambridge, Newark, Chesterfield and Long Bennington) and will continue to operate as Hampsons.

Dean Anderson has been appointed managing director of the Hampsons business. He has worked closely with Steve and Dennis Hampson in the business for over 20 years and has significant input in to the development of the company.

Phil Moorhouse, managing director of Northgate Vehicle Hire, said: "Hampsons has built a strong reputation for providing quality vehicles and excellent customer service over many years.
