Rolls-Royce offers Phantom protection

Date: 10 April 2007

Chauffer and government fleets carrying visiting dignitaries can buy a factory approved armoured Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The latest addition to the Rolls-Royce line-up is engineered to protection level VR7 - the highest international rating - and includes "high-tech fibre composites and special purpose steel to provide protection for the bodywork, while the glazed area is constructed from sheets of thickened glass. In addition, a polycarbonate layer is fitted to the inside for extra passenger protection", according to a Rolls-Royce spokesman.

He added: "The special armouring process is carried out off-site by an approved coachbuilder.

"Customers will be able to order Phantom Armoured from all Rolls-Royce dealers and can tailor every aspect of the car to their own specific requirements. This new model will be available initially in Europe and the Middle East."

Rolls-Royce said the armouring added approximately 2000kg to the cars weight taking it to 4500kg, however it has not increased the power from the 'standard' 453PS engine.

Prices for the armoured Phantom have not been revealed however it is understood to substantially increase the regular Phantom's £216,000.
