Six driving licence penalty points becoming 'standard'

Date: 21 May 2007

The proliferation of speed cameras on UK roads will soon lead to six licence penalty points being seen as normal, according to insurance firm Swinton.

"It's the law that's changed, not the public," said Swinton chief executive Partick Smith. "People are no worse at driving now than they were ten years ago - if anything they're safer now. But the person who has six points today is the same person who would have had three points five years ago and a clean licence ten years ago."
