Date: 06 November 2007   |   Author: Hugh Hunston

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has announced its new chief executive, with environmental and safety specialist Paul Everitt is returning in January.

Everitt succeeds Christopher Macgowan, who has headed up the organisation since 1999 and announced in May that he would step down at the end of the year .

Everitt is moving from the Society of British Aerospace Companies, where he is civil air transport and communications director with responsibility for environmental and safety issues.

His previous SMMT roles included communications, policy and economics.
