Subaru announces its first diesel

Date: 13 February 2007

Subaru, one of a handful of brands without a diesel engine in its line-up, is to rectify that with the introduction of a new unit likely to makes its first appearance in the new Impreza early next year.

The Japanese manufacturer has developed the new diesel along the 'Boxer' principles of its petrol units. Boxer engines are more compact and offer a lower centre of gravity to help packaging and handling. Subaru claims its first diesel will offer "unusually strong pulling power at low engine speeds".
