Volvo has re-engineered its C30 hatch to beat the London congestion charge.
The move follows the proposed emissions-led congestion charge policy re-jig, due next year, which could see cars polluting more than 225g/km charged £25 per day while low polluters emitting 120g/km or less go free.
The new version, dubbed 'Efficiency', gains low-resistance tyres, more slippery aerodynamics and longer gearing that helps boost fuel consumptions to an incredible 62.8mpg and reduce CO2 emissions by 10g/km to 119g/km when compared with the current C30 1.6D.
Making its debut 11 September at the Frankfurt motor show, the Efficiency model will be flanked by another Volvo technological innovation - a dual-shift automatic gearbox that boasts better fuel consumption, lower emissions and greater driving pleasure compared to a conventional auto.
