VW'S Golf next for Bluemotion

Date: 16 May 2007

Volkswagen Golf GT TSI

Volkswagen has confirmed the Golf will be the next car in its range to receive the Bluemotion engine, suspension and engine tweaks to slash emissions and fuel consumption.

The Bluemotion Golf is expected to be powered by the same 105PS diesel engine as the Passat, and be able to break a combined fuel consumption of over 60mpg while possibly slipping under 120g/km, enabling the car to become congestion charge exempt.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen is also developing a high-efficient version of its petrol TSI engine. Instead of possessing both the turbo and supercharger, the supercharger is ditched and replaced by an electronic compressor. Power is pegged at 122PS for the 1.4-litre engine but emissions and economy will be significantly improved.

The 122PS engine will also debut the all-new seven-speed double clutch gearbox. Dubbed DSG-7 the new gearbox has been developed with emissions and fuel consumption in mind.
