X-trail misses out on five-star NCAP result

Date: 30 November 2007   |   Author: Tom Webster

Euro NCAP has released the crash test results for Nissan's new X-trail off-roader.

It performed admirably in child safety, gaining four stars, also got four for adult occupant protection, failing to hit the maximum five achieved by its key rivals.

The result is no better than that achieved by the outgoing X-trail, launched in 2002. The new model was let down by protection afforded to the drivers neck, described as "weak" due to the extent that it could bend back in the event of a frontal impact.

The findings see the Nissan fall behind rivals such as Land Rover's Freelander and the Volkswagen Tiguan, both of which achieved a five star adult protection rating.

Nissan also achieved two stars out of four for pedestrian protection, which is one better than the Freelander but one behind the CR-V.
