All-new Audi A1 Sportback revealed

Date: 02 October 2008

Audi has revealed a concept version of its upcoming supermini the A1.

The five-door A1 Sportback concept revealed at the Paris motor show today is a four-seat hatchback similar in dimensions to a Ford Fiesta.

Although Audi claims the A1 is a concept, the car's styling is understood to be close to production reality. The full production version of the A1 is expected to go on sale in late 2009.

The front-wheel drive concept is powered by a petrol electric hybrid engine using a 150PS 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit plus a 27PS electric motor.

The A1's electric motor is capable of powering the car without the use of the petrol engine for 62 miles. The result is an overall CO2 figure of 92g/km and a fuel figure of 72mpg.
