Awards 2008 - City Car: Citroen C1, Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo

Date: 22 January 2008

One car, three badges. The members of this cutesy trio - winning the category for the third time - are identical under the skin, each offering 1.0-litre petrol engines with 109g/km of emissions and a claimed average economy of 61.4mpg. Plump for the Citroen and you'll also have the option of a 1.4 diesel and an extra 7.5mpg, though you'll pay for the privilege.

Yes, they're small, so don't expect them to be suitable for much more than urban errands, but in town they are in their element and very likeable.

A credible mention goes to Kia's underrated Picanto, which picked up plenty of votes, and this category will make interesting reading next year when Fiat's 500 (which has just gone on sale) and Ford's new Ka (on sale at the end of 2008) will be eligible.

But as green concerns continue to dominate company-car thinking, little beauties like these three sweeten the downsizing pill considerably.
