Awards 2008 - Mini-MPV: Ford S-max

Date: 22 January 2008

Last year's new car of the year has retained its mini-MPV prize in the 2008 BusinessCar Awards. The Ford S-max shook the sector when it was launched in 2006, proving that practical family motoring could be stylish and, most importantly, fun, because the S-max handles better than any MPV that's gone before it.

Ford is also reporting massive success in persuading buyers to opt for the higher, Titanium trim level, and plucking buyers from areas it previously wouldn't have considered possible. For example, Ford UK boss Roelant de Waard recently told BusinessCar that Ford took a Porsche 911 in part-exchange for an S-max as the driver needed to swap his sports car for something more family-orientated.

The fleet market has taken to the S-max, with more than 6500 sold to corporate drivers in 2007. And that's without an automatic option, which joins the range imminently.

BusinessCar has recently come to the end of 20,000 miles with an S-max on our long-term fleet, and it's proved to be one of the most adept all-rounders we've ever run. It seems you agree.
