Awards 2008 - Upper Medium: Ford Mondeo
22 January 2008
On the surface, this is no great shock. The car that picked up Business Car of the Year also wins its category. But stop and think for a minute.
It says everything you need to know about Ford's new Mondeo that it's knocked the bookies' favourite off its perch to grab one of the most hotly contested categories.
BMW's 3-series had bagged a hat-trick of awards in the upper-medium category since the Mondeo last won it in 2004, and with the surge towards prestige brands it was expected that Audi's A4 might again give the BMW its hottest competition.
But the Mondeo beat the pair, though it was a close-run thing. Ford is slowly increasing the desirability of that blue oval badge though a series of impressive products, and none more so than its fleet fodder, which is classier, larger and just all-round better than ever before.
But it isn't just about the new model - this award also reflects the sterling work existing cars are doing on your fleets. A worthy winner.
