Awards 2008 - User-chooser Car: Audi A5

Date: 22 January 2008

Audi A5 front

Audi's A5 romped home in the voting for user-chooser car of the year, despite there being some very tough and credible competition that included category giants such as the new Mercedes C-class, BMW X5 and Land Rover Freelander.

The A5 is a car that Audi has needed for some time; a rival to the BMW 3-series coupe, and when BusinessCar first tested the car back in May we knew the four-ringed brand had a winner on its hands.

The conclusion to our road test read as follows: "The A5 is worth the wait, an impressive and very stylish premium cruiser."

From the car's UK on-sale date in June, Audi offered a range of three powerful petrol and diesel engines, including the mighty 354PS V8 in the S5. This line-up has since expanded with the introduction of more efficient petrol and diesel engines including a 1.8T petrol engine and 2.7-litre diesel. All five power units meet Euro5 emissions regulations, making it one of the first to hit the new standards.

The German brand is looking for around 8000 sales in a full year for its new coupe, which is slightly longer than its big rival, BMW's 3-series coupe, and is based on the platform that underpins the next Audi A4, on sale this spring.
