Ford Mondeo estate

It's a hat-trick for Ford's new Mondeo, bagging this win in the Estate category to add to its Business Car of the Year accolade and top-spot in the Upper-medium category.

This is an award that does the rounds, with Vauxhall, BMW and Audi all getting their paws on it in the last three years, but this time you've decided the Mondeo is top of the pops.

The new estate version of Ford's fleet favourite is a little larger in the rear than its predecessor, offering an extra two litres of space with the seats up and 33 litres with the rear seats folded, but with respect to the outgoing car, its replacement is significantly more elegant.

Freeing up the full load space is easy; simply lift the rear seat bases and one button drops the seat backs to leave a huge, flat load area. There's also a choice of nine engines - four diesel and five petrol - ranging from a 100PS 1.8-litre diesel to the 2.5-litre 220PS petrol, so there's something for every need.

Well done Ford for the Mondeo's three awards. It's a good job the estate has a boot big enough to carry off all the accolades with ease.
