The start point for the best source of fleet information

BP fuel card promises to provide greater 'control'

Date: 05 February 2008   |   Author:

BP's advanced new fuel card can offer everything from text alerts when drivers misbehave to downloadable satnav directions to the nearest petrol station, as well as Chip & Pin and date and time limitations on use.

BP Plus claims to offer fleet managers more rigorous control and security, with the ability to define when and where drivers are allowed to use their fuel card. Although the transaction won't be declined if conditions are breached, a text and/or email alert will be sent to the fleet manager to warn them of the transgression.

"A fleet manager wants to know sooner rather than later - they need control over what is purchased and where and when it is purchased," said BP business marketing manager Kathleen Callendar. "If drivers are aware these systems are in place it helps to censor the group and create consistent compliance."

The system also allows online tracking of fuel costs at any point in the month.

Other BP Plus services include Chip & Pin technology and upgraded online facilities for managing a fleet.

BP defended its decision to start charging for fuel card services. "We're the last to bring a card fee to market, five years behind the competition," said Callendar. "And we needed to add functionality for fleet managers."

Customers can also access invoices and statements online as well as altering their fleet's card parameters and reporting.

The new Chip & Pin cards were issued through January to the company's 350,000 cardholders.
