CV SHOW: Toyota reveals high-power Hilux

Date: 17 April 2008

Toyota revealed a 197PS Hilux pick-up at the Commercial Vehicle show this week.

Japanese manufacturer Toyota has answered its critics by launching a high-power Hilux that is set to be the UK's most powerful production pick-up.

Based on the 3.0-litre D-4D Invincible model, the yet-to-be-named range-topper gains its power hike thanks to new engine management software from Toyota Motorsport.

The increase in power, up 77PS, sees the 0-62mph time drop from 13.0 to 10.5 seconds (11.4 for the automatic).

Toyota will bring just 500 of the high-power pick-ups into the UK, although a source at Toyota said the firm had asked for twice that number from the factory for the UK market because they expect demand to be strong.

Prices have yet to be revealed but the 197PS model will go on sale in the summer.
