Electric fleet deal for delivery giant

Date: 11 December 2008

Delivery multi-national FedEx has added 10 zero emissions vans to its UK fleet.

The delivery giant has taken on 10 Modec electric vans for use in cities including London.

A FedEx spokesman said: "The new vehicles are part of a growing fleet of more environmentally-friendly FedEx Express vehicles that includes more than 170 hybrid electric vehicles worldwide - the largest hybrid fleet in the transportation industry - and supports the company's commitment to improve the fuel efficiency of its vehicle fleet by 20% and reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its aircraft fleet by 20% per available ton mile by 2020."

Commenting on the vehicles' introduction at the handover London mayor Boris Johnson, said: "It is great that these super zero emission vehicles will be introduced onto London's streets. Vehicles such as these help to improve air quality, reduce noise pollution and cut climate change emissions, making the capital cleaner and greener. I am keen to promote a massive increase in low carbon vehicles across London to both play our part in tackling climate change and help to create a green economy."
