Facelifted Peugeot 407 slashes cost of satnav

Peugeot is taking aim at the aftermarket sat-nav industry by charging an expected £600 for built-in navigation on special business-aimed models, typically half the price of satnav in rival cars.
The 308 and 407 SR grades, launching July and September respectively, will cost around £600 more than the S versions they're based on, but add sat nav with Bluetooth handsfree connection, as well as other extras.
The first SR-badged cars will use a fully-fitted colour-screen version of the call-centre connected Smartnav system, before reverting to a new Navtec-based in-dash unit from the beginning of next year, in the case of the 407 SR. Peugeot is also plotting to add a 207 SR version in the near future.
According to the company, the low cost of the new nav and Bluetooth equipped cars will persuade firms to ditch the theft-prone screen-fitted aftermarket units while also ensuring their drivers will always make handsfree calls.
Meanwhile, Peugeot's latest top-end satellite navigation will now given away free with the SE grade of the facelifted 407 saloon and SW estate, which go on sale in September. The system, complete with phone and 30gb hard-drive, was a £2400 option.
